Christopher James Farstad (b. 1986, Minneapolis, MN; he/him) is an American multimedia artist whose work investigates the boundaries between digital and analog techniques. As a video artist, he has developed an intricately constructed and psychedelic compositional style having given projection-assisted performances since 2020. Rooted in improvisation and inspired by the natural world, his work has exhibited at dozens of venues around North America and Japan since 2013 leveraging traditional front-projection, as well as custom projection mapping techniques and unique presentations of diorama-based hybridized “digital sculpture.” As a multi-instrumentalist, his discography includes both solo and collaborative releases on independent labels such as Moon Glyph, Sun Ark, Constellation Tatsu, and Intercoastal Artists. He has worked with radio programmes such as NPR’s Splendid Table and on UI elements for video games such as Illuminati: Confirmed. He lives in San Francisco with his partner, Soleil and their dog, Honey.
