ABOUT
Christopher Farstad (b. 1986, USA) is a Berkeley-based visual and video artist whose practice evolved from the production of ambient and psychedelic music into multi-format installations and live sound art performance. Rooted in physical interventions on optical media, his unique compositional techniques and experimental digital production style seek to place analog mediums in dialogue with contemporary and emergent digital process in order to push the boundaries of video art and image production. Working in such diverse formats as intaglio printmaking, light-based sculpture, projection mapping and multi-channel video, he strives to investigate time-based images as an emergent phenomenon of gestural abstraction, organic process and improvisation. He has participated in juried exhibitions such as Digital Graffiti Alys Beach and performed at venues such as Nanahari (Tokyo), the Lab (San Francisco) and Night Club Gallery (Minneapolis). He has also been an accompanying visual artist for a wide variety of musical styles - having presented in live collaboration with purveyors of dark pop glamour like Loveshadow, modern contemporary string quartets like Copenhagen's Halvcirkel, DJs such as Scott Zacharias, and also free-music performances by groups such as Muscle Beach.
