Chris Farstad (b. 1986, Minnesota; born Christopher James Farstad) is a Berkeley-based visual and video artist whose practice evolved from an early interest in ambient and experimental psychedelic music into immersive projection-based installations and live performance. Rooted in physical interventions on optical media, his unique compositional technique and experimental digital production style seeks to place analog culture in dialogue with emergent digital process in order to push the boundaries of improvisational image-making. He has participated in juried exhibitions such as Digital Graffiti and performed at venues such as Nanahari (Tokyo), the Lab (San Francisco) and Night Club Gallery (Minneapolis). He has also been an accompanying visual artist for a wide variety of musical styles - having presented in live collaboration with purveyors of dark pop glamour like Loveshadow, modern string quartets like Copenhagen's Halvcirkel, DJs such as Scott Zacharias, and also free-music performances by groups such as Muscle Beach.
